WHEN HARRIET BROKE THE CHAIR

A CHILDREN'S BOOK

written by: barbara tilly
illustrated by: jamie ferguson
"When exuberant, impulsive Harriet accidentally breaks her mother’s favorite chair, what happens next is as over the top as Harriet herself. How she resolves the crisis is the heart of this funny, touching mother-daughter story."

When Harriet broke her Mama's favorite chair...
Picture
she didn't tell her mama.
Picture
So, when Mama sat to feed the baby, her favorite chair nearly tipped her to the floor.
Surprised, she squeezed too hard and made the baby SHRIEK!
Picture
The noise startled the cat, which tried to reach the hallway door in one tremendous leap...
...and nearly made it.
Picture
Grandma, coming in just then, slipped in the puddle and flung her strawberries
EVERYWHERE.
Picture
"STRAWBERRIES!" Harriet shouted, and out she jumped from her hidey-hole.
Picture
"I'll STRAWBERRY you, little miss!" Grandma said.
"Now quit jumping around and tell me what in TARNATION happened here?"
Picture
Quickly she explained, "The water spilled because of the vase, which fell because of the cat, which jumped because of the baby,
who cried because of Mama, who squeezed to hard because of the chair, which tipped over because of me."
"I broke it."
Picture
Then Harriet gathered the strawberries,
cleaned up the puddle,
Picture
fed the cat,
tickled the baby to make him laugh, and finally said to Mama,
Picture
"I'm sorry I broke your favorite chair."
"That's ok," Mama said.
Picture
"We can fix it.".
